Do you only build for clients in your area?
No, since all of our model railroads are modular we can construct them in our shop then deliver, and properly install them, wherever you live.

What scales and types of model railroads do you build?
We will work with any scale from Z to G, narrow or standard gauge. We can accurately model any prototype or design a fantasy railroad that highlights the elements you want on your model.

What is the difference between prototype and fantasy railroads?
Prototype railroads are modeled after actual railroads i.e. L&N, Union Pacific, Santa Fe, etc. A fantasy railroad is based on whatever elements you want on your model.

How much does a Pop's Custom Model Railroad cost?
A difficult question!  This is a bit like asking how much does a car cost.  It depends on whether you want a Mercedes or a Honda. Some model railroads can require a significant investment. However, we can also start with a basic railroad and expand upon it at a later date.

What is your labor rate?
We have a single hourly rate for all model railroads regardless of scale, size, or complexity.

How long does it take to build a model railroad?
It depends on the complexity and size of the railroad. A simple track plan built on a basic frame and wired to a power pack could be running in about a day. While a model railroad empire designed for multi-train operation with detection and animation could take several months to over a year.

Do you offer design services?
Yes, Model Railroad designs are $10 per sq. ft. of available space. This will include 2D and 3D CAD drawings and a Bill of Materials needed to build the complete railroad. If you then decide to let us help you build it we will apply 50% of your design fee to the construction of your railroad.
