By this point I am sure you have several questions. While I am sure you will have your own specific questions, here are some of the most common.

Do you only build for clients in your area?
No, since all of our model railroads are modular we can construct them in our shop then deliver, and properly install them, wherever you live.

What scales and types of model railroads do you build?
We will work with any scale from Z to G. We can accurately model any prototype or design a fantasy railroad that is unique to your desires.

What is the difference between prototype and fantasy railroads?
Prototype railroads are modeled after actual railroads i.e. L&N, Norfolk Southern, CSX etc. A fantasy railroad is based on whatever elements you want on your model.

Are all custom model railroads expensive?
They don’t have to be. So many times I have been told “I can’t afford it” until I explain that a model railroad does not have to be large, or expensive, to be fun. Our custom model railroads can be very expensive if you want a large or highly detailed model. However, if you wish to start small, with a minimal investment, we can accommodate you in many ways. For instance, we could get you to a point where trains are running, then let you finish the scenery and add all the structures.

How much does a model railroad cost?
Cost is determined by two factors. First we will develop a list of items needed to build your railroad. Then we estimate the number of hours to complete the project. The final price will be the cost of all supplies plus our labor charge and any applicable sales tax. Also, we will never change your final invoice to compensate for hours. If you’re quoted 100 hours that is all we will bill you for, even if it takes 200 hours.

What are your labor rates?
We have three different classes of labor to offer. While the most expensive will yield a true museum quality layout, even our lowest rate is comparable to what you see in magazines and still far superior to most models at train shows. It is important to know that choosing a higher class will add to the total number of hours on your model. Simply put, the more detail you want the longer it takes.

Can I mix labor classes?
Absolutely, in fact it is what most of our clients do. For example we could build the basic railroad at class 3 but do the scenery and structures in class 1.

How long does it take to build a model railroad?
It depends on the complexity and size of the railroad. A simple track plan built on a basic frame and wired to a power pack could be running in about a day. While a model designed for multi-train operation with detection and animation could take several months, a year, or more.

Do you offer design services?
Yes, designs for model railroads are $10 per sq. ft. of available space. However, we discount that fee to $5 per sq. ft. if you agree to let us build the model to phase one which is the benchwork, trackwork, and electrical.

How do we start?
We ask all clients to fill out a basic questionnaire to help us understand your needs. Then we develop a track plan complete with estimate that meets your budget. After the plan and quote are accepted we can begin construction of your new model railroad.
